Basketball Certifications

Online Certifications
Level 1 Referee, Table Official, and Media Crew certifications are now available online via AllOfficials Learn. Due to the current pandemic, this is the only way to get certified as a basketball official at the moment.

Are you interested in basketball? Interested in earning up to £20 per hour? LBA can offer you a great way to earn money whilst doing what you love. All you have to do is get qualified and you’ll be ready to start earning!
The London Basketball Association is thrilled to announce that you can now get qualified as a referee, table official, coach, or media crew directly through us. LBA will mentor and support you while you get qualified, and then help you find paid work. Whether you’re a total beginner, a basketball player, or an experienced official we offer courses for all levels of experience.
Courses are open to the disabled, males & females, all races and religions, and all ages starting from 13 years of age.

Refereeing Courses

Level 1 Referee

Level 1 Referee is an introduction to basketball and is aimed at the pure beginner. The goal of the course is to encourage the basketball enthusiast to get onto a basketball court and ‘blow a whistle’. The 4-hour course gives an insight into the basic mechanics of refereeing, violations, and fouls that need to be administered. A level 1 referee is qualified to officiate at school matches, local youth leagues and at a recreational level.

Level 2 Referee

Level 2 Referee is aimed at beginners, however having experience as a basketball player or have attended a Level 1 Referee course is an advantage. The 17-hour course provides candidates with knowledge of the full rules of basketball and practical experience in refereeing games. A Level 2 Referee is qualified to officiate at junior national league, and local leagues.

Table Officiating Courses

Level 1 Table Official

Level 1 Table Official is an introduction to basketball and is aimed at beginners. The underlying philosophy of the course is to encourage the basketball enthusiast to be able to table officiate a game. The 2-hour course gives an insight into the basic work of a table official like timekeeping, and keeping track of the scores and fouls at a basketball game. A Level 1 Table Official is qualified to officiate at school matches, local youth leagues and at a recreational level.

Level 2 Table Official

Level 2 Table Official is aimed at individuals wishing to progress as a table official and possibly interested in doing senior national league games. Applicants need limited previous experience or knowledge of basketball. The 4-hour course provides deeper knowledge of the roles of the timekeeper and scorer. A Level 2 Table Official is qualified to officiate at junior national league, local leagues, and experienced Level 2 Table Officials can even officiate at senior national league.

Coaching Courses

Level 1 Coach

Level 1 Coach is the basic level of coaching qualification, which gives outline knowledge of basketball, and enables the holder to introduce basketball and to assist a Level 2 Coach (or above). The main focus is to equip coaches with “how to coach skills”, as in how to provide a safe environment, to build rapport with their players, how to organise, instruct, demonstrate, observe, analyse, communicate and provide feedback, as well as the traditional “what to coach skills” of technique and tactics.

Level 2 Coach

Level 2 Coach qualification gives candidates the skill base and confidence to deliver coaching sessions. This is the first level of coaching that doesn’t require supervision. If you would like to improve your coaching skills, or embark on a career as a basketball coach then the Level 2 Coach course is perfect for you. Candidates are strongly recommended to have attended and successfully completed a Level 1 Coach course, and should have a sound basic understanding and good experience of basketball and delivering to groups. This 4 day course provides candidates with all the knowledge they require to coach a club or school team in training and games.

Media Crew Courses

Level 1 Media Crew (Online)

Level 1 Media Crew is designed to encourage people to gain a fundamental understanding of the basic roles of the sports media crew, to learn new skills that can be applied in the sports field, and to gain confidence in capturing great content.
