LBA Scholarships: Paving the Way for Basketball Players, Referees, and Coaches

The London Basketball Association (LBA) is committed to providing opportunities for individuals to thrive in the world of basketball. Our LBA Scholarship Programmes aim to empower aspiring athletes, referees, table officials, and coaches (ROCs) by offering financial support and accessible pathways to success. To apply for the LBA Scholarship, click on the google form link provided under courses and activities page. This is an incredible opportunity for individuals who may not be able to afford the upfront costs associated with these courses or playing. If you face financial challenges or fall into one of our target groups, such as being female, living in specific boroughs, having a disability, being a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), or working with the LBA, we encourage you to apply. This ensures that we allocate our funding efficiently and support individuals who are committed to making a positive impact in the communities we are here to serve. LBA Scholarship for Courses

As a scholarship recipient, you’ll have the chance to enrol in various courses, such as referee, table official, and coaching programs (Levels 1 and 2*). Once accredited, you’ll become an integral part of the basketball workforce and gain access to a wide range of job opportunities. ROC’s have the potential to earn a competitive income, with event rates ranging from £17.50 to £50 on average. By joining the LBA’s pool and benefiting from our partnership with AllOfficials.co.uk, you’ll receive regular job notifications and be able to secure positions within the wider basketball community.
In addition to our courses, we also offer a Deposit and Pay Back Scheme, which removes the financial barrier that may hinder your career progression. When you apply for the LBA scholarship, you have the chance to qualify for a scholarship that allows you to pay off the course fees by working an agreed amount of LBA sessions. This unique opportunity not only enables you to kickstart your career without upfront costs but also provides valuable hands-on experience and community engagement.

Referee Practical experience

For candidates that have recently been qualified or are looking to enter the world of Basketball officiating, look no further. The LBA will be launching practical referee sessions just for you. Through this project, a candidate will be able to work work with an experienced Level 2 referee at the LBA’s Community scrimmages. This will be held Every Thursday starting January 11th and ending February 15th, the sessions will take place at St. Augustine’s Sports Centre.

Throughout the project duration we hope to give you the tools to build your confidence, grow you knowledge and give you the peace of mind you need before carrying out work at real games. LBA Scholarship for Activities

Through this scholarship program, we provide concession prices and limited free-of-charge spaces for participating in LBA activities. Currently, our focus is on the Young Hoopers programme, offering young athletes the opportunity to engage in basketball activities and develop their skills. As we continue to expand our scholarship offerings, we strive to include a broader range of activities that cater to diverse interests and age groups.
