The College End of Season Tournament was again a success this year with 16 teams battling it out at the Score Centre in Leyton. Plenty of prizes were up for grabs! We can’t go without also acknowledging the coaches and players of the tournament, and all staff and volunteers at the event. This year, LBA was fortunate to engage with female teams who also entered into the tournament. We were lucky enough to have 3×3 Commonwealth Winner Kayne Henry in attendance to give awards out. We also had Britain finest and London Lions star Justin Robinson engaging with the players. In attendance we had the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Basketball England, Duncan Whalley!

Being one of the biggest college tournaments LBA has put on, this year there were teams from Wolverhampton and Uxbridge joining and for the first time a female LBA select team. QR codes were dotted around the venue so that every coach, player and spectator could see how their team were able to check out their stats and scores in real-time. Our marketing team gave you some behind the scenes footage of the day.

There were some extremely close contested games, like the 25-21 game between Newham Sixth Form College and Loughborough Chinese Basketball Team. Both finals led to Lambeth College and City of Wolverhampton College for the Men’s, while LBA Select and Cardinal Pole Catholic School reached the final of the Women’s. All players fought extremely hard but it was Lambeth that started and ended the game strong. While City of Wolverhampton College put up an impressive fight and challenged the defence. However, they could not snatch the win. The final score of the game was 34-31, with Lambeth College becoming the champions of the 2022 Men’s College Tournament. Now with it being the first ever Women’s End of Season Tournament, the atmosphere was great! LBA Select came out with the win. The score was 21-11.

The day concluded with Kayne Henry presenting the first, second and third place awards, MVP, Defensive Player awards, Coach of the Tournament and the Spirit award. The event could not have been done without the 16 LBA staff/volunteers. All Officials including 8 table officials, 8 referees. Not forgetting members from Basketball England and our Basketball influencers. It also wouldn’t have been possible without the LBA Marketing and Senior Team. These people were truly amazing throughout the day. A big thank you to all the 60 female participants and 160 male participants for putting in a huge effort for your team.

Overall, this was an amazing tournament. Each team showed up to play their very best, and all of them did. They played with intensity and aggression while keeping an air of sportsmanship and fair play. They all deserve praise for their outstanding effort and performance.
