The London Basketball Association is thrilled to announce that you can now get qualified as a refereetable official or coach directly through us. LBA will mentor and support you while you get qualified, and then help you find paid work. Whether you’re a total beginner, or an experienced player and official, we offer courses for all levels of experience.

Courses are open to the disabled, males & females, all races and religions, and all ages starting from 13 years of age.

First Aid Essentials

Duration 3 hours

First Aid Essentials, produced with West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, aims to give the confidence needed to react in an incident when someone urgently needs help.

The purpose of this course is to give you a practical guide on how to handle an incident that may require first aid. The course is not intended to teach you how to first aid, but it is designed to give you confidence to know what to do when someone urgently needs your help.

This three module course delivers three CPD hours and comprehensively covers:

  • providing basic life support
  • how to react in life threatening situations
  • how to deal with someone who is choking, drowning, seizing, bleeding or having an allergic reaction
  • what to do if somebody has a broken bone or experienced a burn
  • how to handle day-to-day incidents such as nose bleeds, insect bites, stings, sprains and strains and sunburn.

Safeguarding Young People

Duration 4 hours

Safeguarding Young People, endorsed by established youth organisations, provides the key information needed to help raise your awareness of young people who may be vulnerable because of their age, relative inexperience, past abusive experiences or current circumstances.

Safeguarding Young People is written for those who work with young people aged 16-25 in further education colleges, but the principles of the course apply to anybody who comes into contact with young people in their work or voluntary activity.

This four module course delivers four CPD hours and comprehensively covers:

Child Protection in Sport & Active Leisure

Duration 5 hours

Child Protection in Sport & Active Leisure, endorsed by Kidscape and Family Lives is written for those who work with children and young people in a sport or leisure setting. Its purpose is to raise your awareness of abuse and neglect, help you to recognise early signs there might be a problem, and show you how to take appropriate action.

Equality & Diversity

The Equality & Diversity course is accredited by Secured by Design and meets national Police approved standards. It is a concise course that explains the fundamentals of equality and diversity and how they affect you.

This includes looking at the Equality Act 2010 and the ‘protected characteristics’ that form the basis of the law, as well some of the barriers that can prevent equality being realised, such as prejudice, stereotyping, discrimination, victimisation and harassment. This course can help introduce new recruits to the subject or act as a refresher for current employees.

This one module course delivers one CPD hours and comprehensively covers:

  • what equality and diversity mean and how they affect you
  • barriers that can prevent equality from being realised such as prejudice, stereotyping, discrimination, victimisation and harassment

Child Protection – Refresher

Duration: 3 hours

Child Protection – Refresher is designed for those who have already undergone level 1 or 2 child protection training who wish to refresh their knowledge, keep up to date with recent changes in legislation and guidance, and stay aware of recent serious case reviews.

The content is divided into three concise learning modules that cover recent changes and how they will affect your work, a refresher of what child abuse is and recognising and responding to signs of abuse, and the key findings of recent serious case reviews.
